TOM ALGAR
It all started about 70 years ago, yes really! My great grandad had a passion for racing and raced karts in the late 50s before moving onto racing Mini Coopers. My Grandad and Great Uncle followed suit, with a family race team formulated in the 1970s. Naturally, my dad karted from an early age, and now races his BMW and classic Sebring and is the team owner of Algar Racing.
I was introduced into the world of motorsport at the age of 6, with my first taste of racing at Team Sport indoor karting facility. I moved into outdoor karting, racing Cadet karts initially at Lydd Kart Circuit before gaining more experience at various circuits around Kent.
At 11 I moved into Rotax Mini Max karts, a faster and highly competitive style of racing, which more suited my driving style, and went on to place in races and going on to win the Mini Max 2023 championship. At 12 I moved into the British Junior Rotax Max karts, where I raced at some of the UK's best kart circuits, alongside international drivers, and which resulted in several top 10 placings.
My ultimate dream is to race GTs, and at age 14 I started racing with Team Orex in the Junior Saloon Car Championship, racing Citroen Saxos at all the prestigious race circuits across the UK.
As one of the youngest on the grid, I’ve loved my first (half) season and cannot wait for the 2025 season to start. Until the season starts, I’m competing in sim-racing throughout the winter, which will help me become more familiar with circuits as well as maintaining my racing and reaction skills.
